Furniture and TV Safety Straps

According to CPSC every two weeks a child dies from furniture tipping over. Every 24 minutes, one is injured.

Not many families consider furniture as something that needs to be childproofed, but in reality, it’s one of the top hidden hazards lurking inside your home. Take a look at this chilling video of dresser tip over illustrating the dangers of anchored furniture:

Luckily there were no injuries and his brother was there to save him. Furniture such as dressers, changing tables and bookshelves should all be securely strapped to the wall to avoid a child from pulling it on top of themselves. Heavy items that can easily fall over need to be pushed back as far as possible to the wall and anchored with the properly rated safety strap.

The truth is that a TV is probably what catches a child’s attention the most, and as flat and light as they may seem, if they fall from a considerable height, on top of a small child, they will most definitely cause injuries. If your flat screen TV is not or can not be mounted to the wall, it should be strapped down with a safety strap.

Always be sure to use the proper strap for the dresser, changing table, bookshelf or TV you are strapping. Installing an inappropriate or too small a safety strap can only provide a false sense of security.
